Parsleys Warren Residents
Get to Know our Current Residents!
Parsleys Warren is a life-long Sanctuary for elderly and ‘special needs’ rabbits, and once a new resident arrives they will hopefully be with us for many years. This means that we get to know them really well, with all their individual characters, needs, likes and (occasionally) dislikes! We like to share our rabbit residents with all our supporters and followers so read on to get to know them better!
We are still working on a page of Sadly Missed Past Residents but have realised there are over 120 of them so progress is slow!. We also sadly and slowly inevitably have to move some ‘residents’ over to ‘past residents’ as there are sad losses - so if you wonder ‘whatever happened to’ you may find them there.
CHINA CAT SUNFLOWER has been with us since before 'Parsleys Warren' was created, when we were still just taking in rabbits in need. She is a magnificent woolly mammoth of a rabbit with a fine disdain for other more normal looking fellows. Following a stroke she is now blind and deaf and after a fairy tale romance with Easter (a wildie) was left sadly widowed and has never taken to another rabbit no matter how many we try. She currently makes her own personal home in living room and repels all incomers.
APRIL arrived with us after a call from social services and at first struggled to settle with other rabbits and gain weight. Thanks to our wonderful supporters, she has had a range of tests and diagnostics which we are pleased to say found no underlying cause. However she does have a tendency to be hyp[er active and now has an incredible affair going on with a true wildie who moved into the garden in summer 2025 WILBERFORCE. She still has to come in at night though like an 'wild child'!!
ASTERACEAE was brought into an animal rescue in Kent, she had head wounds which suggest she had been attacked by a cat. These have now healed but as a single adolescent wild rabbit would have no chance released on her own, she has now grown to be a fine rabbit - and been bonded with tiny Cobweb to make a THIRD! 'wildie' group at Parsleys Warren.
ATLAS came to us via Bunny Angels, a nationwide network devoted to finding rescue space for in danger rabbits. Atlas has head tilt. vision issues and brain damage all related to EC a common issue with rabbits. He is THE most delightful, entertaining, adorable, wonderful chap and ALL the other rabbits love him! He lives in a quad indoors with CHARLES and BURLINGTON BERTIE
BURLINGTON BERTIE (HEAD OF WARREN) came to us via the lovely people at RSPCA Altrincham and One Bun At a Time. He had been diagnosed with severe heart and other issues and the RSPCA were given the option of put to sleep or find a long-term sanctuary. After a short while getting into a tizzy trying to be head of the indoor clan, he has now taken it into his stride. He has the most adorable curly ears and a slightly bemused expression much of the time!
BRAMBLEBLOSSOMcame from a group of half wild rabbits (with one domestic parent and one wild) at Rabbit Residence Rescue, who we work with a lot. Sadly the siblings had a falling out and Brambleblossom needed a new home. She fitted in well as one of the lead rabbits in the wildie group and now bosses WILDIE BENJAMIN
CAMPION arrived with us in (April 2024) having been found with injuries and raised by a very kind human who then brought him here. Due to beng blind in one eye he is even more nervous than most wildies and also rather small so we were concerned about h his joining the main wildie group. We are therefore delighted to announce that he has now found a new friend with our latest arrival PIPER. and also BRAMBLEBLOSSOM.
CHARLES GUILLAUME or to give him his full name, Charles Guillaume Maximillian the second, arrived at Emmas Rabbit Rescue in Northampton as a very very malnourished young rabbit, with very little hair and no muscle, due to the very poor way he had been kept and almost starved. This sort of early neglect can lead to long term issue with bone structure etc and so we took him in and named him after the father of one of our Trustees! For many years he lived with Delphinium who sadly passed away in May 2025, henow lives indoors with Burlington Bertie and Atlas.
Some buns are just NOT going to pose for the camera! So I give you a 'collective' of wildies of which COBWEB our smallest rabbit is the top right! PIPER is front and Campoin or Asteracea top left! Wildies are hard to identify at whether by night or day. COBWEB was a private rescue/intake and has had a rough start and seems to be set to stay at a minuscule 1.2kilos.
CREAM PUFF came to us as "Benji' from Bunny Angels. He was variously claimed as 4 years or 9 years old - but his demeanour and wise old eyes declared that 9 was the most likely. He was almost immediately diagnosed with kidney and liver failure - but has been with us for a year now and bonded with PUFFBALL. He is the most adorable rabbit ever - and has a very special relationship with the vet nurses who see to his 'rehydration days' once a month
HAZEL is a little cutie! The last rabbit left in an RSPCA that was closing its rabbit accommodation - she is 9 years old and has a middle ear infection and trauma to her spine. Spotted by a long time PW supporter it was arranged for her to come her and she has proved the perfect match and calming influence for POPCORN .
LADY BUTE (brown up ears) named after the wife of 18th century plant collector Lord Bute, is a bit of a mystery. She came into the Baby Blue Bee Bunnies rescue in the normal way so to speak . . and then became ill with multiple internal adhesions. Major surgery saved her against all the odds, and she came to us as she could not be re-homed in the normal way in case the adhesions came back. She has been here almost five years now and despite a dip in health after the loss of Himalayan Balsam - and a mystery stiff leg , she is looking better this new year (2026)
LUX and WINONA are well – Lux and Winona the 'twins' – and have been ever since they arrived with their half-wildie siblings at Rabbit Residence Rescue back in 2021! Of course there were more of them then so to speak but you know how families are – siblings argue and fall out - and it became eventually Lux and Winona. In summer 2025 with a spare wildie chalet available we asked RRR whether they would like to transfer them here so they could have more run space more often in our large special wildie area, and free up a chalet for more rescue rabbits at RRR (which is after all our purpose – to help rehoming rescues!). They keep themselves to themselves and are identifiable by one being just a tad bigger and one being a tad bolder . . but as they do everything together we call them ‘Lux and Winona’ inseparably
PIPER (at the Gates of Dawn) was one of our latest arrivals in the outdoor wildie groups - in October 2024! Half wildie he has come in from another rescue that did not have the best facilities for him. and so reached out to us. We are delighted to announce that he has immediately bonded with our hald blind wildie, Campion as a boy duo which is surprisingly common with wildies!
POPCORN (or Popsicles) came from an RSPCA - as a 'how many white and patchy lop eared rabbits can one sanctuary have?' adoption! Almost impossible to bond into a group he just caused havoc with spray and humping until paired with the older and calmer Hazel - although he will still hump Charles if given a chance!! He is being testedfor retained testicle!
We already had a 'Puff' (CREAM PUFF) when this bundle of fluff arrived - and just HAD to be named PUFFBALL. He was a private owner intake and has bilateral ear infections, weepy eyes and was in need of a good hair sort out - he is also poor sighted and. when he 'looses' CREAM PUFF or his food bowl and just runs in circles until he bumps into him again!
WINONA (and Lux) the 'twins' – and have been ever since they arrived with their half-wildie siblings at Rabbit Residence Rescue back in 2021! In summer 2025 with a spare wildie chalet available we asked RRR whether they would like to transfer them here. They keep themselves to themselves and are identifiable by one being just a tad bigger and one being a tad bolder . . but as they do everything together we call them ‘Lux and Winona’ or Winona and Lux ! inseparably
WILBERFORCE - our latest 'Arrival;': the REAL WILDIE - actually only a Parsleys warren Reident by virtue of actually having moved in of his own accord - and now living in the gardens and having a deep and meaningful relationship with 'wild child' APRIL. She is neutered - he cannot be caught!
UPDATE Cherry Garcia has now (Nov 2023) been adopted by one of our long term supporters to live with her two girl rabbits - and re-named Albus! We wish him well! Cherry Garcia was found dumped in a park at only a few months old. Confused and underfed, he has been with his finder for a few weeks but its not possible for her to keep him so he has come to us as his next stop on the road to happiness.
Cyrano (white out of control ears) spent a short while here whilst deciding whether he was really the supposed 9 years old he was claimed to be and thus suitable for a place at the sanctuary. He spent the time here bouncing and whizzing around . . and decided that actually he was probably much too lively and has popped off to bond with Edie at Nicola's instead!!
WILDIE BENJAMIN was the most reclusive of our wildies. Hand reared by the person who found him until he was too used to human company to be released, he found his niche in our main wildie group with Carrot, Brambleblossom and Brambleberry. He passed away in August 2025 after a brief illness.
BRACKEN was an absolute scamp!! A real fabulous and cheeky wildie who came to us from Oxford Animal Sanctuary already aged 5. Now 8 years old, he lives with rather more youthful ASTERCEAE He loves humans - unless they are late with his food . . ouch! Sadly we lost Bracken at age 10 in summer 2025.
SAFFRON came here with her sister Fleur from Northamptonshire Animals in Need, again because agouti rabbits were hard to rehome. This was before we were officially 'Parsleys Warren' and neither Saffron nor Fleur had health issues or were elderly, but they had been sat in rescue for too long so we took them in. In fact we now suspect they were older than the rescue had been told by their original owners, as we lost Fleur last year and Saffron passed away a year later having taken on the typical 'over 10 years' look of a wise old rabbit . . , having spent her last year indoors.
FLORENTINO (and NOT Florentina as we first thought!) was another case of severe malnutrition, although as a result of a very sad family situation. He was meant to come to us on his way to a rehoming rescue but when we opened the box he came in we realised he was in a very bad way. Happily he rapidly made up for a poor start and was bonded with Pamplemouse (the 'Odd Couple'!). However early issues can often lead to a difficulties in middle age and he passed away in 2025. Sadly missed.
HIMALAYAN BALSAM was with us for 10 whole years and actually arrived fit and well. ! For much of that time he was with Lady Bute and so got to stay! We always keep bonded rabbits together if they arrive together. or manage to do a quick bond themselves whilst 'passing through'!! Theirs was a fabulous partnership.
UPDATE: Sadly we lost PARSIFAL to a severe case of EC in Summer 2024, but still cannot quite bring ourselves to move him into the 'Past residents' category . . . even in a sanctuary for elderly and disabled losses can hit us hard. came to us from Essex Guinea Pig, Rat and Rabbit Rescue. He is that very rare thing at Parsleys Warren, a young and healthy rabbit! In fact we brought him in as support from Burlington Bertie (and the humans!) and generally to give a sense of 'normality and support' to all the indoor rabbits, who include some of our oldest and chronically disabled We were devastated to loose him to EC.
PAMPLEMOUSE (it means grapefruit in French) is another EC rabbit. He has had head tilt in the past and now has the typical wobbly rear legs. We were delighted to be able to offer him a sanctuary space when he came into the Rabbit Residence Rescue. For many years he lived happily outside with Apple Blossom, and then found companionship with Florentino and Pocket,. Sadly we lost Pamplemouse to old age in December 2024.
POCKET Came to us direct from his previous carers in summer 2024. He was 10 years old suffered from a touch of arthritis and a slightly weepy eye but was otherwise amazingly healthy. He joined in a trio with Florentino and Pamplemouse and loved sharing adventures in the garden over summer. After he lost his companions he spent time indoors with us until he too passed -
